Listen to Matt Barwick on ABC Babytalk. Penny Johnston said Matt Barwick author of Life in Limbo has a powerful story to tell.
He doesn’t spare us the details as he chronicles his journey through the death of his brother, the mania that had him hospitalised, the grief and depression and what at times must have seen like an unimportant factor; infertility.
However this isn’t an overwhelmingly sad book but it is an honest and fascinating one.

Men, Infertility and Depression, this doesn’t sound like a bright or positive subject for a podcast, but it is. Have you or your partner struggled with infertility? Ever wanted to know exactly what is it like from a bloke’s point of view? Interested in how you go about supporting your partner or a friend through the trials and tribulations of trying to get pregnant when suddenly sex isn’t just fun and games anymore? Listen to Matt’s honest discussion of his journey through infertility, depression and mental illness.
Matt Barwick and his wife thought they were on the same path as all the other successful late 20s couples they knew. They assumed (like most of us) that merely deciding it was ‘time to start trying’ they’d end up with a baby nine months later. The universe however had other plans.
While negotiating the difficult path that is infertility Matt hit another massive stumbling block as his brother suicided. Plunged into grief and plagued by doubts and uncertainty about why his brother chose to die, Matt found himself in psychiatric care as he was hit with Bipolar Disorder.
Matt has a powerful story to tell. He doesn’t spare us the details as he chronicles his journey through the death of his brother, the mania that had him hospitalised, the grief and depression and what at times must have seen like an unimportant factor; infertility. However this isn’t an overwhelmingly sad book but it is an honest and fascinating one.
In spite of all the obstacles thrown at him Matt and his wife eventually succeeded in what they hoped for above all else, the birth of beautiful baby Oliver.
If you have ever wondered what it’s like to be a guy going through infertility treatment, let Matt share with you. If you’re a guy wondering how you’re going to make it through you will enjoy Matt’s honesty. If you’re a woman and you’ve always wondered what it is like, or how you might help, Matt’s story might help you too.
